I am in awe of the idea of Cobaya Gourmet Guinea Pig experiments. This time around experiment #32 took place at the Makoto restaurant in Bal Harbour. Chef Makoto Okuwa himself is the one to bow our heads to for his delicious creations.

Miami | Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival in Coconut Grove.

Celebrate like a Bahamian this weekend.
Did you know that Miami’s first black settlers were Bahamians? And that they made Coconut Grove their home in the early 1800′s while they were working to build Miami. I bet you didn’t. We sure owe them a lot. However, it feels so right having the festival where it all started.

Join the crowds this 36th annual Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival in Coconut Grove and celebrate for two days.  This is a free street festival. And as a festival should it has music, dancing and much happiness to offer. And food.

Did I mention the food? Ribs, fish and chicken with its tantalizing smell. Yum.

But make sure not to miss the conch. Queen Conch is a staple in the Bahama. It is known for its gorgeous pink shell and it is abundant in the clear blue water of the islands. Cracked, boiled, served in fritters and not to forget; a freshly prepared conch salad – chopped conch with some onion, peppers, lime juice and chilies. Double Yum!

See you there!

Where: Grand Avenue, Coconut Grove

When:   4 & 5 August, 2012

Time:    noon until 8 p.m.
