Paloma Designer Shops – Budapest

Being Scandinavian we do search for ‘the light’ most of the time. And leaving Sweden in November for Budapest, is pure bliss. I come from 6 C and grey skies (at best) and rain and wind (sooo much wind) and arrive at 10 degrees, blue skies and sunshine. No wind.

I simply love wandering around in this beautiful city. Today’s excursion took us, among other places, to Paloma. Paloma is in the typical courtyard building they have in Budapest (lovely!) and centuries ago it was a shopping plaza. After being empty for years and years, today young designers introduce their work here in their small showrooms.

There are designers making jewelry, clothes, toys, leather purses, books etc. Tiny little shops with gentle, smiling people. And beautiful designs. Well worth a visit.

Shoes – Budapest

Does Hungary have their own line of “Adidas”? They sure do.

If you wanted a casual sneaker with great durability in the 70s-early eighties, this shoe was THE shoe in Hungary. However, the western brands took over and the production was eventually shut down. In 2001 the local entrepreneur, Lászlo Vidák, acquired the trademark of ‘Tisza’ and the patents connected to it and  gave the brand a ‘re-birth’ (if you will).

Since 2003 the Tisza brand produces great looking shoes, bags and apparel.

Vinylize – Budapest

Let me tell you. This place is not easy to find. We walked for EVER. And when we got to the address – Vinylize were nowhere to be found. We asked passers by, store owners in the area until we turned the corner, ready to give up and leave – we entered an optical store and they simply pointed us to the right place. Phew. This was quite a task. But quite easy once you find the right place. Which is in an apartment building on the 2nd floor (or first floor for you guys that use the word mezzanine for the ground floor). And please do take the elevator, because the 2nd floor in this particular building is really on another floor, much higher up. Who would have known? (Do I need to confess that we took the stairs?)

Vinylize make frames (for glasses) out of vinyl [records]. It is über cool! You even get to choose from which record the item is made, needless to say; it is made to order.

Who were awarded the Red Dot Design Award 2016? You know it: Vinylize.
